Ida May Warren (Grammy Ida)

To find the focal point, follow your gaze behind my grandmother   Above her thick calf coming over the rail, is a line of bushes with sunlight crystallizing on their tops.  Above them is a clear black hole disappearing into the woods.  This is what I like about old cameras – one tremble and the photograph shifts like a fun house mirror – wavy, impressionistic.  One tremble and the innocence and fun of my grandmother’s pose contrasts with the mystery and slight menace of the woods.

Thanks to my cousin for uncovering a new treasure trove of family photographs.
